Lucknow/Tokyo: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has positioned himself as the strongest global ambassador of the state’s flagship One District, One Product (ODOP) scheme during his recent visits to Singapore and Japan.
Beyond investment meetings and industrial collaborations, the Chief Minister used the diplomatic platform to showcase Uttar Pradesh’s rich cultural heritage and traditional craftsmanship to international leaders, corporate executives, officials, and students.
Showcasing Uttar Pradesh’s Cultural Wealth
During the visit, the Chief Minister presented more than 500 specially curated ODOP souvenirs crafted across various districts of Uttar Pradesh. These gifts were not only symbolic gestures but strategic representations of the state’s cultural diversity and artisan excellence.
Among the highlights were intricately designed glass idols from Firozabad’s renowned glass industry, including artistic depictions of Lord Ram, Lord Shiva, Radha-Krishna, and Lord Buddha. These finely crafted pieces drew admiration for their vibrant detailing and craftsmanship.
Models of the Kashi Vishwanath Temple created using Varanasi’s globally acclaimed pink meenakari technique also stood out. Artworks depicting Buddha and peacocks, along with brass sculptures from Moradabad and finely carved wooden idols from Saharanpur, further demonstrated the artistic depth of Uttar Pradesh’s districts.
Officials accompanying the delegation noted that the gifts left a lasting impression on foreign dignitaries, highlighting the cultural identity and creative legacy of the state.
Mandala Art for Children: A Cultural Bridge
A particularly heartwarming gesture was the distribution of more than 300 handcrafted Mandala art pieces specially prepared for children in Singapore and Japan. The vibrant, intricate designs introduced young recipients to Indian artistic traditions in a creative and engaging manner.
The initiative was widely viewed as an example of cultural diplomacy in action, strengthening India’s soft power outreach through artistic exchange. The enthusiasm of the children underscored the universal appeal of traditional Indian art forms.

Strengthening the ‘Local to Global’ Vision
The ODOP scheme aims to identify and promote unique products from each district of Uttar Pradesh, enabling artisans and small-scale industries to access national and international markets. The Chief Minister’s effort aligns closely with the broader “Vocal for Local” and “Atmanirbhar Bharat” initiatives, which seek to boost indigenous production and self-reliance.
By introducing ODOP products in developed economies such as Singapore and Japan, the state government hopes to expand export potential, enhance brand visibility, and create new trade linkages. Experts believe such exposure could significantly increase global demand for Uttar Pradesh’s handicrafts and specialty products.
New Opportunities for Artisans
The international promotion of ODOP is expected to benefit lakhs of artisans and craft-based families across the state. Greater export opportunities could lead to higher incomes, sustainable livelihoods, and increased recognition for traditional skills that have often remained confined to local markets.
Industry observers say that positioning ODOP products on global platforms not only enhances Uttar Pradesh’s brand value but also strengthens its economic ecosystem by integrating traditional craftsmanship with modern trade networks.
A Model of Cultural Diplomacy
The Chief Minister’s outreach during the foreign tour has been described as a compelling example of cultural diplomacy. By blending investment discussions with heritage promotion, the visit highlighted how economic growth and cultural identity can move forward together.
As Uttar Pradesh continues its push toward becoming a major investment destination, initiatives like the global promotion of ODOP reinforce its identity as both an economic powerhouse and a custodian of India’s rich artistic traditions.
With this strategic cultural push, Uttar Pradesh is steadily advancing its “Local to Global” journey — bringing the craftsmanship of its districts to the world stage.
