Lucknow: The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR) at King George’s Medical University (KGMU) marked World Physiotherapy Day with an awareness program highlighting the health benefits of physiotherapy.
The program focused on modern treatment methods and advancements in physiotherapy. Dr. Arvind Sonkar, Associate Professor, shared detailed insights on the latest techniques and technological progress in the field.
Dr. Atul Mishra, President of the Provincial Physiotherapy Association, emphasized the growing significance of physiotherapy in modern healthcare. “Today, physiotherapy has established its utility across all branches of medicine,” he said, while also tracing the history of World Physiotherapy Day. He explained that the World Confederation for Physical Therapy, the only global body representing physiotherapists worldwide, was founded on September 8, 1951. To commemorate this historic milestone, World Physiotherapy Day was officially declared on September 8, 1996, and has since been celebrated enthusiastically across the globe.

The event witnessed active participation from specialists including Dr. Mansoor, Dr. Manmohan, Dr. Manvendra Singh, Dr. Pranay Singh, Dr. Ravindra Gautam, Dr. Shraddha Verma, Dr. Harshika Srivastava, and Dr. Akanksha, along with several physiotherapists.
The program concluded with discussions on strengthening physiotherapy services for better patient care and spreading awareness about its benefits in rehabilitation and holistic health.
