World Boxing Cup Finals: Minakshi, Preeti, Arundhati and Nupur Clinch Gold, India Shine on Historic Day

New Delhi: India’s women boxers delivered a sensational performance at the World Boxing Cup Finals 2025, winning four gold medals and electrifying the crowd at the Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex. Minakshi (48kg), Preeti (54kg), Arundhati Choudhary (70kg), and Nupur (80+kg) emerged champions in their respective categories, marking one of India’s strongest collective showings in recent years.

The victories came in Olympic weight divisions that will feature at the 2028 Los Angeles Games — a major boost for India as the sport moves toward full gender parity. Their triumphs also capped a standout campaign for the hosts, who have displayed impressive depth across men’s and women’s divisions throughout the tournament.

Seven more Indian boxers, including reigning World Champion Jaismine Lamboira, two-time former World Champion Nikhat Zareen, and dual World Cup medallist Hitesh Gulia, are set to compete for gold in Session 7.

Minakshi opened India’s golden run with a dominant 5–0 win over Asian Champion Farzona Fozilova. The World Champion asserted her control early, combining sharp footwork with fast, accurate combinations. A decisive left–right in the opening round put her firmly ahead, and she maintained her momentum until the final bell.

Preeti continued India’s charge with another unanimous 5–0 victory, outclassing Italy’s Sirine Charrabi. Displaying superior movement and sustained pressure, Preeti repeatedly forced the World Championship medallist onto the defensive with clean head shots and quick counterattacks.

Returning to the ring after an 18-month break, former Youth World Champion Arundhati Choudhary delivered one of the afternoon’s most complete performances. She outboxed Uzbekistan’s Aziza Zokirova 5–0, relying on disciplined ring craft, sharp jabs and effective counter-punching to dominate all three rounds.

Nupur wrapped up the women’s gold sweep with a tightly contested 3–2 win over Uzbekistan’s Sotimboeva Oltinoy. In a bout defined by patience and tactical exchanges, Nupur held her nerve to secure a split-decision victory.

In the men’s finals, India added four silver medals to its tally. Jadumani Singh (50kg) put up a spirited effort but lost 1–4 to Uzbekistan’s Asilbek Jalilov. Pawan Bartwal (55kg), who produced one of the tournament’s biggest upsets earlier in the week, fell to Samandar Olimov. Abhinash Jamwal (65kg) showed grit before going down 1–4 to Japan’s seasoned Shion Nishiyama, while Ankush Phangal (80kg) narrowly missed gold against England’s defending champion Shittu Oladimeji.

With several top Indian athletes still to fight for gold, the country’s medal haul is expected to rise further, reinforcing its steady ascent in world boxing.
