Bareilly: A two-day Pediatric and Neonatal Update Workshop titled “Decoding Childhood: From Molecule to Wellness” was organized by Shri Ram Murti Smarak Institute of Medical Sciences at Alaknanda Resort in Bareilly from March 7–8, 2026. The workshop brought together leading pediatric specialists from across the country to discuss advancements in genetics, pediatrics, and neonatology.
Speaking at the inaugural session, Dev Murti highlighted that India still lags behind many countries in pediatric treatment due to inadequate newborn screening and lack of awareness. He stressed that while government initiatives are crucial in reducing neonatal mortality, medical colleges must also play a key role in ensuring complete health screening of newborns and educating parents about preventive care.
Renowned geneticist Dr Shubha Phadke delivered a keynote lecture on changing diagnostic approaches in the era of molecular medicine. She emphasized the growing importance of genetic and molecular medicine in diagnosing and treating diseases in newborns and children, noting that early diagnosis can significantly reduce neonatal mortality.
The workshop was chaired by Brigadier (Retd.) Dr Vandana Negi, who welcomed the participants and explained that the event aimed to bridge the gap between clinical practice and research. Principal Dr MS Butola shared achievements of the institution and announced plans to establish two new trauma units at the college.

Several experts delivered lectures on key pediatric health issues, including childhood epilepsy, neonatal genomics, genetic hemolytic anemia, renal tubular disorders, severe infections and sepsis in PICU, hereditary cardiovascular diseases, and rare genetic disorders such as Gaucher disease.
