Wife Udita’s Women’s HIL Title Win Inspires Mandeep Singh’s Hunt for Men’s Trophy

Delhi: Mandeep Singh, star striker for Ranchi Royals in the ongoing Men’s Hockey India League (HIL) 2026, says his wife Udita’s recent triumph in the Women’s HIL has given him fresh motivation to aim for the championship himself. Udita, a fullback for SG Pipers, recently led her team to their first-ever Women’s HIL 2025-26 title, lifting the trophy and making history in Indian women’s hockey.

For Mandeep, this is more than just a family celebration—it has become a personal source of inspiration. Speaking to the media, he said, “Many times in jest, I say Udita has put pressure on me. But it’s a good kind of pressure—it motivates me. Her success encourages me to perform better and push my limits. Our Ranchi Royals team is performing well, and we are giving our all to reach the top. Seeing my wife lift the HIL trophy has only intensified my hunger to win with my team.”

Currently, Ranchi Royals sit second in the Men’s HIL 2026 standings with 11 points from six matches—winning three matches outright, one in a shootout, and losing two. They trail leaders Vedanta Kalinga Lancers, who have 16 points from seven matches. Guided by former India coach Harendra Singh, the Royals are now preparing for the high-stakes knockout stage, with Mandeep determined to bring the trophy home.

The couple’s journey extends beyond the field. Away from cameras and crowds, Mandeep and Udita maintain a disciplined routine focused on hockey and fitness. They train together daily, from morning gym sessions to evening practice on local turfs. “Hockey is a part of our daily life,” Mandeep said. “Udita advises me on what I did well and what I need to improve. She helps me stay calm and focused. Mentally, she is incredibly strong, and she is my biggest source of strength.”

The synergy between the couple goes beyond training. Their shared understanding of the game allows Mandeep to channel Udita’s insights into his own performance. “Her achievements remind me of the importance of focus, hard work, and resilience,” he added.

Married last year, Mandeep and Udita are chasing a rare family milestone: if Mandeep leads Ranchi Royals to a Men’s HIL title while Udita holds the Women’s HIL trophy, it would mark a historic double for Indian hockey. “If we both win the HIL trophies, it will be a dream come true for our family. Her victory motivates me to score, win matches, and give my best. I want her to feel as proud of me as I do of her,” Mandeep said.

The couple’s story highlights the growing prominence of hockey in India, showcasing not only individual talent but also the strength of partnership and shared ambition. In an era where sporting excellence is often a solitary pursuit, Mandeep and Udita exemplify how mutual support and understanding can fuel achievement at the highest levels.

As the Men’s HIL 2026 heads toward its knockout phase, all eyes are on Mandeep Singh, not just as a player, but as a husband inspired by his wife’s historic success. Their journey reflects a rare combination of skill, commitment, and family synergy—a story of love, ambition, and sporting excellence intertwined.
