Following the resignation of Nitish Kumar from the post of Chief Minister of Bihar and his nomination for the Rajya Sabha, political activity in the state has intensified. The ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is expected to convene an important meeting of its legislative party soon to elect a new leader who will assume the responsibilities of Chief Minister.
According to political sources, as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is the largest constituent of the NDA in the Bihar Assembly, it may stake claim to the Chief Minister’s post. Among the prominent names under discussion are senior BJP leader and Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary and Union Minister Nityanand Rai. Both leaders are considered strong contenders due to their organizational experience and political influence.

Although no official announcement has been made yet, party sources indicate that a final decision may be taken soon after consultations with the central leadership. Once the NDA formally communicates its decision, the Governor is expected to initiate the process of forming the new government.
This leadership transition is being viewed as a significant political shift in Bihar. There is also growing speculation in political circles that the BJP may directly lead the state government for the first time.
