Prayagraj: For the upcoming Maha Kumbh Mela in 2025, the Ministry of Railways has unveiled an extensive plan to manage the transportation of millions of pilgrims to Prayagraj. From January 12 to February 28, 2025, a total of 992 special trains will be operational, in addition to the existing 140 regular trains and 6,580 services passing through the Prayagraj region.
The new trains will cater specifically to the high influx of pilgrims expected to attend the event. To further facilitate travel, a new circular train route linking Prayagraj, Ayodhya, and Varanasi will be introduced. The railway network is also set to undergo upgrades, including the addition of 174 longer rakes and a Rs 933 crore investment to enhance passenger facilities and infrastructure.
Moreover, a Rs 3,700 crore project aimed at doubling the number of railway lines in the Prayagraj Division is underway. The Ganga Expressway, which is set to be completed before the Mela, will also ease travel for those attending the event. This coordinated effort aims to ensure a smooth and efficient journey for the millions of pilgrims flocking to the Mela.
