Bahrain: A three-member Indian team (all women) will compete at the World Weightlifting Championships starting in Manama, Bahrain. The tournament, which runs from today to December 16, will not see Tokyo Olympics 2020 silver medallist Mirabai Chanu in action as she is eyeing long-term rehabilitation from her injuries. She last played at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where she missed out on a medal by finishing fourth.
In Mirabai’s absence, emerging Gyaneshwari Yadav will represent the tricolour in the women’s 49kg category. She is also a silver medallist at the junior world championships level and won a gold medal at the Commonwealth Championships in the 49kg category last year. On the other hand, Ditimoni Sonowal will compete in Group C of 64 kg, which is also a non-Olympic weight category. This time there will be no male competitor from India in this competition.
