Lucknow: To mark World AIDS Day, the Uttar Pradesh State AIDS Control Society organised a large-scale walkathon from Lucknow University to Hazratganj Crossing. The awareness march was jointly flagged off by Ravindra Kumar, IAS, Additional Project Director, U.P. State AIDS Control Society, and Prof. Manuka Khanna, Vice Chancellor, Lucknow University, along with several distinguished guests.
Around 2,500 students from various National Service Scheme (NSS) and NCC units of colleges across Lucknow participated with great enthusiasm. Carrying placards and flags promoting HIV awareness, the marching groups created an inspiring sight for the public.
The walkathon began at the Lucknow University campus, passed through KD Singh Babu Stadium and Parivartan Chowk, reached Hazratganj, and concluded back at the university. Throughout the route, students raised slogans on HIV/AIDS prevention and rights, drawing the admiration of thousands of onlookers.
Addressing participants, Additional Project Director Ravindra Kumar said that awareness about HIV/AIDS is the true mark of a responsible and informed youth. He emphasised that every section of society deserves equal rights and dignity. “Misconceptions about HIV/AIDS must be removed, and no force is better suited for this task than the youth,” he stated. He reminded everyone that World AIDS Day underscores the message that people living with HIV are integral members of society and must be treated with equality. He urged all citizens to support the U.P. State AIDS Control Society’s mission to eliminate HIV and work for the welfare of society.
After the walkathon, a special magic show by Munna & Party from Sitapur entertained the audience while delivering important awareness messages. Several other cultural performances were also presented, adding vibrancy to the event.
