Voter List Revision Drive Begins in Uttar Pradesh: Every Voter to Be Reverified

Lucknow | Following Bihar, the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list has now begun in Uttar Pradesh, marking a major step toward ensuring greater accuracy and transparency in the electoral rolls. The Election Commission of India (ECI) formally launched the drive with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar announcing that the process would begin from October 28 across the state.

The campaign aims to update the voter rolls, remove names of deceased or ineligible voters, and include new eligible citizens. According to the Election Commission, the revision will be conducted through a combination of digital verification and on-ground field checks to eliminate errors and duplication.

Currently, Uttar Pradesh has 15.44 crore registered voters, covering 403 Assembly constituencies and 80 Parliamentary seats. As part of this large-scale operation, 1,62,486 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) have been deployed across the state. Their work will be supervised by 2,445 Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and 75 District Election Officers (DEOs) to ensure meticulous and transparent verification.

CEC Gyanesh Kumar stated that the exercise will strengthen the electoral process and ensure that “every eligible voter’s name is on the list, and every ineligible entry is removed.” He emphasized that the accuracy of the voter list forms the foundation of free and fair elections.

The Commission has also made provisions for citizens to check, correct, or update their details easily. Voters who find errors in their information can request corrections within the specified period, while new voters can apply for inclusion either online or offline.

The updated rolls will help the Election Commission prepare for upcoming electoral events and ensure greater participation, transparency, and accountability in the democratic process.
