Virat Kohli Surpasses Sachin Tendulkar, Rohit Sharma Equals David Warner in Record-Breaking Vijay Hazare Trophy Performances

New Delhi: Indian cricket stalwarts Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma delivered commanding centuries for Delhi and Mumbai respectively, guiding their teams to emphatic victories in the Vijay Hazare Trophy Elite Group matches, while also achieving major personal milestones in List A cricket.

Virat Kohli etched his name deeper into the record books by becoming the fastest batter to score 16,000 runs in List A cricket. Kohli reached the landmark in his 330th List A innings, surpassing the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, who had achieved the feat in 391 innings. Tendulkar went on to score 21,999 runs in 538 List A innings, including 18,426 runs in 452 ODIs. Kohli, meanwhile, has accumulated 14,557 runs in 296 ODIs so far.

Kohli’s milestone came during Delhi’s four-wicket win over Andhra Pradesh in an Elite Group D match at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) on the outskirts of Bengaluru. Chasing 299, Delhi rode on Kohli’s masterful 131 off 101 balls (14 fours, 3 sixes), along with aggressive half-centuries from Priyansh Arya (74 off 44) and Nitish Rana (77 off 55), to reach 300 for six in 37.4 overs.

Earlier, Andhra Pradesh had posted 298 for eight after opting to bat first, powered by a scintillating 122 off 105 balls from Ricky Bhui, who struck seven sixes and 11 fours. Delhi’s pace attack was led by Simarjeet Singh, who claimed an impressive 5 for 54, while Prince Yadav chipped in with 3 for 50.

In another Elite Group C clash, Rohit Sharma smashed a blistering 155 off 94 balls (18 fours, 9 sixes) to lead Mumbai to an eight-wicket win over Sikkim. Rohit completed his century in just 62 balls, registering his 37th List A hundred. With this knock, he also equalled David Warner’s record of scoring nine 150-plus scores in One-Day cricket.

Mumbai chased down Sikkim’s 236 for seven with ease, finishing at 237 for two in 30.3 overs. Rohit shared a 141-run opening partnership with Angkrish Raghuvanshi (38) and later added 85 runs for the third wicket with Musheer Khan (27 not out). For Sikkim, Ashish Thapa top-scored with 79 off 87 balls.

Both Kohli and Rohit, having retired from Test and T20I cricket, are now focused solely on ODI cricket, with their sights firmly set on representing India at the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.

Meanwhile, a historic feat unfolded in the Plate Group, where Vaibhav Suryavanshi became the youngest centurion in List A cricket history. At just 14 years and 272 days, Vaibhav blasted 190 off 84 balls, smashing 15 sixes and 16 fours, as Bihar thrashed Arunachal Pradesh by 397 runs. Bihar posted a staggering 574 for six, aided by centuries from Ayush Loharuka (116) and captain Sakibul Gani (128). Arunachal Pradesh were bowled out for 177 in 42.2 overs.

Vaibhav brought up his century in just 36 balls, underlining a remarkable rise for the teenager, who made his List A debut for Bihar in December 2024 against Madhya Pradesh.

The day proved to be one of milestones and dominance, reaffirming the enduring brilliance of India’s senior stars while also spotlighting the arrival of extraordinary young talent in domestic cricket.
