Vikas Nagar Police Bust Cannabis Trafficking Syndicate, Two Arrested with Nearly 1 Kg Ganja

Lucknow | Vikas Nagar police, under the East Zone of the Lucknow Police Commissionerate, have arrested two members of an organised ganja trafficking syndicate and recovered 0.956 kilograms of illegal cannabis along with cash. With this action, a total of four members of the gang have now been arrested.

According to police officials, the arrests were made on January 31, 2026, during routine patrolling in the Sabzi Mandi area. Two youths attempted to flee on spotting the police but were apprehended after a brief chase. During interrogation, they were identified as Ziauddin (29) and Mohammad Suhail (20).

A search led to the recovery of five packets of ganja from their possession. Further questioning resulted in the seizure of additional cannabis hidden near the boundary wall of an open ground close to Secretariat Tiraha. The total recovery included 0.956 kg of ganja and ₹830 in cash.

Police stated that the accused were operating as part of a syndicate, preparing and selling small packets of ganja in the area. Ziauddin was found in possession of 0.500 kg of ganja and ₹450, while Mohammad Suhail had 0.456 kg of ganja and ₹380.

An FIR has been registered at Vikas Nagar police station under Case Crime No. 20/2026, Sections 8/20 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Both accused were arrested and produced before the court.

Police further revealed that Ziauddin has a prior criminal record, whereas this is the first NDPS-related case registered against Mohammad Suhail.

The arresting team included Sub-Inspector Jitendra Kumar Singh, Sub-Inspector Anand Kumar Yadav, Sub-Inspector Gore Lal, Head Constable Anuj Kumar, and Constable Raghuveer. Authorities said further investigation is underway to trace other links in the trafficking network.
