Vigilance Team Cracks Down on Electricity Theft in Lucknow, FIR Filed Against 10 Accused

Lucknow — A large-scale operation against electricity theft was conducted early Monday morning in the Kadam Rasool area of Ahibranpur, Daliganj after officials suspected rampant power pilferage on a local feeder line. The vigilance and electricity department teams launched coordinated raids across hundreds of homes, catching several consumers red-handed.

During the intensive checking drive, ten individuals were caught stealing electricity and FIRs have been registered against them, sparking alarm across the neighborhood.

The crackdown targeted multiple localities including Mithi Khichdi, Mohan Meakin Road, Godiyan Tola, and Badshahji, where numerous cases of electricity theft were uncovered. The names of those booked include Zaheer Khan, Raju, Rizwana, Afroze, Sunita Rani, Rampyari, Alam, Sandeep Kashyap, and Monu Kashyap.

Officials said the operation is part of an ongoing campaign to curb electricity theft, which causes massive financial losses to the power department — running into crores of rupees monthly — and contributes to high line losses.

The electricity department urged consumers to refrain from illegal connections and theft and to ensure timely payment of their electricity bills.

Instead of daytime checks, the teams now conduct nighttime raids accompanied by a strong contingent to better detect and prevent theft. Authorities confirmed that the checking campaign will continue in the coming days to ensure strict enforcement and safeguard power supply integrity in the city.
