Lucknow – On the occasion of India’s Independence Day, Vice Chancellor Prof. Manuka Khanna addressed the University of Lucknow community, paying heartfelt tribute to the soldiers whose sacrifices secured the nation’s freedom.
In her speech, she reflected on the Bhartiya Rashtriya Andolan, highlighting how sacrifice, satyagraha, and ahimsa were the guiding principles of the freedom movement. Recalling the creation of the song Vande Mataram in 1905, she urged everyone to continue respecting the nation as a mother.
Prof. Khanna fondly remembered eminent freedom fighters and leaders including Mahatma Gandhi and Krishna Chandra Bhattacharya, Ravindra nath tagore, for their role in both the independence struggle and the nation’s development.

She appreciated the University’s rising admission numbers, noting the growing presence of international students from Europe, America, and beyond. She expressed pride in the University of Lucknow’s expanding footprint at national, academic, and research levels.
Acknowledging her deep connection as an alumna, Prof. Khanna assured that as VC of University she will work with colleagues to further elevate the institution’s stature. She also extended gratitude to former Vice Chancellor Prof. Alok K. Rai for laying a strong and sustainable foundation for the University’s future.
