Lucknow: The eighth day of Uttarayani Kauthig 2026 witnessed a vibrant celebration of folk culture, with the Kauthig premises resonating with the colours, rhythms and traditions of Uttarakhand. Renowned folk singer Chandraprakash, who arrived from Uttarakhand, enthralled the audience with soulful renditions of popular folk songs, earning thunderous applause from spectators.
Sharing details of the event, Mahendra Singh Rawat, General Secretary of the Parvatiya Mahaparishad, said that Chandraprakash has been enriching folk culture for the past thirteen years through his consistent performances after gaining recognition from the Kauthig मंच.

As part of the ongoing cultural programmes, regional branches presented captivating dance performances. Several competitions, including Jhora dance competitions, “Pahadi Dhunon Par Desi Thumka” and the Chhapeli dance competition “Jhoomigo Season-4”, were organised, with teams from various branches and institutions participating enthusiastically. The second round of the “Pahad Ki Awaaz” competition was also held, where selected participants showcased their singing talent.
A musical group from Haldwani added a melodious touch to the event, using instruments such as the dholak, keyboard, flute, tabla and octopad. The audience was also treated to an impactful dance drama based on a folk legend, “Madho Singh Bhandari,” which received widespread appreciation.

On the occasion, Miss Uttarayani Nidhi Arya and Mr Uttarayani Shashank Saxena were felicitated. The chief guest, Delhi MLA Mohan Singh Bisht, along with other distinguished guests, was welcomed in a traditional manner. In the second session, Additional Chief Secretary Leena Johri was honoured as the chief guest.
During Uttarayani Kauthig 2026, the Padma Shri Professor M.C. Pant Medical Award was conferred upon renowned Lucknow-based ophthalmologist Dr. Vineet Sah in recognition of his contribution to medical services.
Office bearers of the Parvatiya Mahaparishad, youth and women’s wings, artists and a large number of spectators were present, making the event a memorable celebration of folk heritage and cultural unity.
