Lucknow– Police have arrested a youth six months after the brutal murder of a 62-year-old woman in Mohammadpur Khala. The accused, identified as Anil Yadav, allegedly killed the woman in her home while under the influence of alcohol.
The victim, Kanchana Devi, was found dead on the morning of April 1, 2025, at her tin-shed residence in Chandura village. According to police reports, she was asleep when an unidentified person entered her house and strangled her. A complaint was lodged by her son, Suresh, at the Mohammadpur Khala police station.
A joint team comprising the SWAT unit, surveillance squad, and Mohammadpur Khala police conducted an investigation and successfully apprehended Anil Yadav near the Chandura bus stop. Interrogation revealed that Anil, who is addicted to alcohol, had climbed over the wall into Kanchana Devi’s house on the night of March 31 while intoxicated.
“When the victim raised an alarm, the accused, in a panic of being caught, covered her mouth, causing her death. To avoid suspicion, he wrapped her neck with her saree and fled the scene,” said a senior police officer involved in the investigation.
The accused has been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, and further investigation is ongoing.
