Uttar Pradesh to Provide ₹1 Lakh Assistance to Kailash Mansarovar Pilgrims

Lucknow: In a major initiative to support religious tourism and assist pilgrims undertaking the arduous journey to the sacred Himalayan shrine, the Uttar Pradesh government will provide financial assistance of ₹1 lakh each to 555 devotees undertaking the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra.

The assistance will be distributed by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath during a special programme scheduled at Lok Bhavan in Lucknow on Tuesday. The initiative has been organised by the state’s Tourism Department with the aim of encouraging religious tourism and easing the financial burden of the demanding pilgrimage.

Officials said the programme will witness the presence of pilgrims, public representatives, and senior government officials. The move is expected to provide significant relief to devotees, as the journey to Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar in the Himalayas is considered spiritually significant in Hinduism but is also physically challenging and expensive.

Support for Pilgrims

The state government’s decision reflects its commitment to promoting faith-based tourism while supporting devotees undertaking the sacred journey. The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is regarded as one of the holiest pilgrimages in Hindu tradition, drawing thousands of devotees every year despite its difficult terrain and high travel costs.

By providing financial assistance, the Uttar Pradesh government aims to make the pilgrimage more accessible for residents of the state. The initiative is part of a broader effort to strengthen religious tourism infrastructure and encourage spiritual travel across the region.

The event will also be attended by Suresh Kumar Khanna, the state’s Finance and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, and Jaiveer Singh, along with other senior public representatives.

Honouring Faith and Promoting Religious Tourism

Under the state scheme, permanent residents of Uttar Pradesh who complete the pilgrimage are eligible for financial assistance of up to ₹1 lakh. The amount is transferred directly to beneficiaries’ bank accounts after the submission of applications and verification of required documents.

To further facilitate pilgrims travelling from across the country, the state government has also constructed the Kailash Mansarovar Bhavan, which provides transit accommodation and improved facilities for yatris undertaking the journey.

Officials believe that such initiatives not only honour the faith of devotees but also strengthen Uttar Pradesh’s position as an emerging hub for religious and spiritual tourism.
