Uttar Pradesh to become cleaner and healthier – Ritu Suhas

Lucknow: To spread the message of cleanliness of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi “Bapu” to the people and to establish cleanliness living up to his nature and culture, a special cleanliness campaign is being started with unity in all the bodies of the state from 05 am on 26 September.

To establish the cities of the state in the category of global cities, Swachh Bharat Mission Urban Uttar Pradesh will pay tribute to Bapu by running “155 hours non-stop Mahasafai Abhiyan” in all the bodies till 08 pm on 02 October, which will also be continuously monitored live from the Directorate level.

Various categories such as clean school, clean house, clean food street, cultural fest etc. will also be organized in the Swachhata Hi Seva program. By organizing Safai Mitra Suraksha Camp, health checkup of all Safai Mitras, distribution of cleaning equipment, safety kits and benefits of various government schemes will also be provided.

Additional Director, Swachh Bharat Mission Urban (Ritu Suhas) Ritu Suhas said that to pay tribute to the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi, who gave the message of cleanliness to the nation, on his 155th birth anniversary, under the “Swachhata Hi Seva Program 2024”, a ‘155-hour non-stop cleanliness campaign’ is being started in all urban bodies from 05 am on 26 September and it will conclude on 02 October at 08 pm.

During this, Shramdaan programs will be organized in all the wards of each body. For complete cleanliness in all Ganga Town areas, cleaning of the areas around the ghat and its periphery, installation of Arpan Kalash, creation of plastic prohibition zone, participation of citizens and ghat beautification will be done. Meetings and workshops will be organized with all stakeholders, self-help groups, departments, executive officers of bodies and others. Which will be monitored and supervised from time to time by the Directorate and Swachh Bharat Mission at the state level, along with this, the data of all the activities will also be updated by the bodies every day through Google Sheet.

Additional Director . Suhas (Ritu Suhas) said that for the massive participation of citizens in cleanliness, various awareness programs are being organized, such as tree plantation campaign under ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’, awareness campaign in various educational institutions for waste separation, zero waste events, NGO and SHG mobilization, activities like marathon, cyclathon and plugin, wall painting and beautification of parks, tourist places, roads and flyovers etc. Cultural programs such as Nukkad Natak, Street Play, Recycle Fashion Show etc. are being organized at various places. Beautification of all parks by re-manufacturing items from waste/recycled items, for which, along with strengthening and improving the Waste-to-Wonder Parks built in the bodies, various items are also being installed at public places through Waste-to-Art. The cooperation of brand ambassadors, Swachh Warriors, Swachh Champions, etc. citizens is being taken in the Swachhta Participation Programs.

Swachh School: Schools, colleges, universities (Swachh Sarathi Club) have an important contribution in the Swachhta Participation. Children are our heritage and future, whose awareness of cleanliness and contribution in various works towards cleanliness is incomparable, for which this year clean schools are being built in all the bodies through Swachh Sarathi Club, which will be plastic free, equipped with clean toilets and clean premises and the schools performing best by fulfilling the standards of cleanliness in each body will also be awarded the title of “Clean School”.

Clean Food Street: Under the program, such places will be identified in all the bodies where there are food related carts and shops on the roadside and in the streets, twin dustbins, plastic free area and awareness campaign will be run for cleanliness at all those places. Along with this, by running a massive campaign, all public places, government offices, public and market areas, educational institutions, public transport- railway, bus station, sanctuary, zoo and protected area, trekking and camping place, Ganga town-ghat, water bodies (rivers, lakes, ponds, drains etc.), tourist places, religious and spiritual places, all toilets – CT/PT. Cleaning of houses, upgradation of SBM assets etc. will be done with the cooperation of citizens.

Clean House: Under the program, Clean Environment Promotion Committee has been formed in each ward, which will select the ‘Clean House’ on the basis of various components in the ward. The best three houses in each ward will be awarded with a certificate and two excellent cleaning workers from each ward will be honored.

Cleanliness of Heritage and Religious Places: Under the program, association with voluntary organizations, youth, colleges, art clubs, community organizations, cleaning of heritage sites and surrounding areas and its periphery, establishment of plastic prohibition zone, wall painting related to beautification and cleanliness, participation of citizens and ghat beautification work will be completed.

Clean Market: Under the program, at least 01 bazaar will be set up in all the bodies. Awareness campaign by identifying the areas, cleaning of all toilets – CT/PT, vendor sensitization, highest cleanliness in all markets, establishment of plastic prohibition zone, twin bins, street vending zones will be identified by each body and arrangements for cleanliness and street lighting will be made in these zones.

Swachh Ghat: Under the program, for complete cleanliness in all Ganga Town areas, cleaning of the areas around the Ghat and its periphery, installation of Arpan Kalash, creating plastic prohibition zone, participation of citizens and beautification of Ghat.

She (Ritu Suhas) told that on the 155th birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi, along with honoring all the sanitation workers, brand ambassadors, Swachh Warriors, Swachh Champions, all members of Swachh Environment Promotion Committee who have helped in the program will also be honored by calling a meeting and the citizens will also be honored. The same 02 Municipal Corporations, 05 Municipalities and 10 Nagar Panchayats which fulfill the standards of total cleanliness will also be honored at the state level.

To make the cities of the state clean and beautiful, to ensure the supply of pure environment and drinking water to the general public, a special cleanliness campaign is being run in the urban bodies of the state from 17 September to 02 October. Under which 136563 programs are being organized in the state. 59550 total cleanliness and targeted units were identified, while about 38000 units were made clean and beautiful. More than one and a half lakh people have participated in the campaign. A target has been set to organize 5413 “Safai Mitra Suraksha Camps” for Safai Mitras, under which 2161 camps were organized and health tests were conducted and the benefits of government schemes are being given.

Cleaning is done regularly in the state from 05 am to 08 am. By making micro plans, beats of sanitation workers are being formed for cleaning the roads and streets of each locality, ward and regular online and offline monitoring is being done. Cleaning work and garbage lifting is also being done in the second shift between 4 pm to 8 pm in the areas around main markets, major public places, bus stations, railway stations, cultural and tourist places, educational institutions etc. Cleaning of reservoirs, ponds and river banks located in the municipal area is being done through own resources and public cooperation (volunteers / voluntary organizations / trade boards / industry boards).
