Uttar Pradesh Notifies SOP for Aerospace & Defence Policy 2024, Boosting Investment and Jobs

Lucknow — In a major push to strengthen the aerospace and defence manufacturing ecosystem, the Uttar Pradesh government has officially notified the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the implementation of its Aerospace and Defence Unit and Employment Promotion Policy–2024.

The SOP aims to streamline the investment process, enhance transparency, and expedite project approvals to create a business-friendly environment in the state. Six key defence nodes—Aligarh, Agra, Lucknow, Kanpur, Jhansi, and Chitrakoot—have been identified as focal points for development under the policy.

The government envisions significant growth in foreign direct investment (FDI), indigenous defence production, and employment generation through the establishment of aerospace and defence units in these regions.

The Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) has been designated as the nodal agency for the policy’s effective execution. With this step, UPEIDA will facilitate investments, oversee industrial infrastructure development, and act as the single-window body for clearances and coordination.

Officials say the policy aligns strongly with the ‘Make in India’ initiative, aiming to turn Uttar Pradesh into a major defence manufacturing hub. The policy also emphasizes skill development and training for local youth, unlocking new employment opportunities in high-tech sectors.
