Lucknow: Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh has witnessed remarkable progress in law and order, infrastructure development, and economic empowerment over the past seven and a half years. The ambitious goal of transforming the state into a one-trillion-dollar economy stands as a testament to the government’s commitment. As part of this vision, the Yogi administration has decided to conduct the Eighth Economic Census for 2025-26 to ensure holistic development across all sections of society. The data collected will aid in formulating various welfare schemes aimed at improving the socio-economic status of the underprivileged.
17,000 Enumerators and 6,000 Supervisors to be Deployed
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to devise a comprehensive plan for the Eighth Economic Census to propel the state’s economy to new heights. Unlike conventional data collection exercises, the Yogi government envisions this census as a transformative tool. The entire enumeration process will be conducted digitally, ensuring accurate data collection. A web-based mobile application is being developed to facilitate real-time data verification, monitoring, and analysis.

The initiative will enable the state government to gain deeper insights into enterprises, self-employed individuals, laborers, and small traders, thereby enhancing transparency in policymaking. Approximately 17,000 enumerators and 6,000 supervisors will be deployed for the census. Additionally, local youth will be trained and engaged in this campaign, providing them with employment opportunities and skill development avenues.
Boost for Small Entrepreneurs and Traders
In a significant move, CM Yogi has mandated the inclusion of women enumerators in the census to ensure their active participation. The government is providing women with technical training, data collection skills, and digital platform exposure, fostering self-reliance. The economic census is set to benefit small entrepreneurs and traders across Uttar Pradesh, giving them economic recognition and opportunities to expand their businesses.
The data collected will aid the Yogi administration in framing effective policies to support small enterprises with financial assistance, market access, business training, and technical collaborations. Both rural and urban businesses will benefit equally, ensuring balanced economic growth. The census will be entirely digital, enhancing efficiency and accelerating data collection.
Multi-Layer Monitoring System in Place
To ensure the credibility and accuracy of the census, a multi-layer monitoring system is being developed. This system will involve district magistrates, district statistical officers, and IT experts to oversee the data collection process. The IT team will validate data quality, reducing the economic disparity between urban and rural areas.
With a focused approach, the government aims to boost small-scale industries in villages, generating employment for rural youth. Simultaneously, startups and MSMEs in urban areas will receive the necessary support to strengthen local production. By adopting an inclusive approach to economic policies, the Yogi government is striving to ensure that every citizen benefits from the state’s economic growth trajectory.
