Uttar Pradesh Emerges as Model State in Disaster Relief; Over ₹710 Crore Released in 2025–26

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh is emerging as a strong model state in disaster management and relief, with the government releasing ₹710.12 crore under the Disaster Relief Fund during the financial year 2025–26. The funds were utilised to provide swift assistance to people affected by floods, cold waves, fires, storms and other natural and human-induced disasters.

Under the guidance of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Relief Commissioner’s Office has intensified efforts to minimise disaster impact and ensure prompt rescue, rehabilitation and compensation for victims. Officials said the allocation has strengthened the state’s disaster response system and improved coordination at district and local levels.

Major Allocation for Flood Relief

Of the total ₹710.12 crore released, the largest share—₹365.73 crore—was allocated for flood relief and rehabilitation, particularly in areas affected by the Sarayu, Ganga and Ghaghra rivers. The funds were used for rescue operations, temporary shelters, and support for displaced families.

Additionally, ₹14.13 crore was released to compensate losses caused by cyclones and storms, ₹0.13 crore for hailstorm-related damages, and ₹14.63 crore for fire incidents. To combat the impact of severe cold waves, ₹50.72 crore was allocated for preventive and relief measures.

The government also earmarked around ₹246.63 crore for other disaster-related contingencies, ₹0.44 crore under general heads, and ₹17.71 crore for additional relief operations. These funds were deployed to accelerate rescue, rehabilitation and relief efforts in affected regions.

Extensive Winter Relief Measures

The Relief Commissioner’s Office undertook extensive preparations during the winter season, resulting in a noticeable reduction in cold wave-related casualties this year. For the protection of destitute and vulnerable individuals, ₹45.51 crore was released for blanket distribution and ₹3.51 crore for setting up bonfires.

Across the state, bonfires were arranged at 27,027 locations, with 1,69,834 bonfires lit so far, based on local requirements. District administrations have distributed 5,89,689 blankets to the poor and homeless.

Furthermore, 1,242 night shelters (rain baseras) were set up across Uttar Pradesh, providing relief to more than 64,000 people to date. These measures played a critical role in safeguarding lives during extreme winter conditions.

Technology-Driven Response

To enhance real-time coordination and citizen access to relief, the state government continues to operate the “Aapda Prahari” mobile application and a 1070 toll-free helpline. These platforms enable quick reporting of emergencies and ensure faster response from authorities.

Officials said the government’s objective is to ensure immediate assistance to every disaster-affected individual while safeguarding both lives and livelihoods. With strengthened preparedness, timely fund allocation and technology-enabled coordination, Uttar Pradesh is positioning itself as a leading example in disaster relief and management across the country.
