Uttar Pradesh Emerges as a Leader in EV Charging Infrastructure with 2,316 Stations

Lucknow: Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh is making rapid strides in clean energy and green transportation. Over the past five years, the state has established 2,316 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, including both fast and slow chargers, strengthening its position among India’s leading states in EV infrastructure.

The expansion has been driven by a combination of private investment, central government schemes, and clear state policies. This growth not only supports environmental sustainability but also fuels economic development by reducing dependence on fossil fuels and promoting industrial and urban growth.

Strong Share in National EV Network

Out of the 29,151 EV charging stations nationwide, Uttar Pradesh contributes a significant share. Of the 2,316 stations in the state, 540 are fast chargers and 1,776 are slow chargers, reflecting a balanced network catering to both urban and semi-urban areas.

Major cities such as Lucknow, Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, Kanpur, Varanasi, Prayagraj, and Agra are witnessing an expanding network of EV charging facilities. Sandeep Yadav, CEO of Yahvi Group, highlighted that the company has installed EV charging stations for trucks in Mathura and Vrindavan, further strengthening the state’s infrastructure.

Vision and Policy Focus

The Uttar Pradesh government has prioritized establishing the state as a leader in electric mobility. To achieve this, it has created an investment-friendly environment and provided incentives for private companies and investors to set up EV charging stations.

Balancing Environmental and Economic Goals

The expansion of EV infrastructure aligns with the government’s focus on environmental protection and sustainable development. Wider adoption of electric vehicles is expected to reduce carbon emissions, improve air quality, and decrease reliance on petrol and diesel, delivering long-term economic benefits.

Coordination with Central Government

Uttar Pradesh has also benefited from central government schemes such as FAME-1 and FAME-2, which have enabled the establishment of 9,576 EV charging stations nationwide. Under the PM E-Drive scheme, a budget of ₹2,000 crore has been allocated to support EV infrastructure expansion.

Preparing for the Future

Experts predict a rapid rise in EV adoption in Uttar Pradesh in the coming years. The state government is planning to expand charging infrastructure along expressways, industrial hubs, bus terminals, railway stations, and tourist destinations, ensuring that the EV ecosystem grows in step with rising demand.

With a combination of strategic planning, private participation, and government support, Uttar Pradesh is positioning itself as a model state for electric mobility in India.
