Uttar Pradesh Agriculture Minister Directs Timely Availability of Rabi Crop Seeds

LUCKNOW – In a move aimed at ensuring a smooth and successful Rabi sowing season, Uttar Pradesh Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi has directed that all seeds for Rabi crops be made available at government seed stores by October 25, 2025. The minister also instructed officials to complete the distribution of all subsidized seeds by November 25, 2025, well before the start of the sowing period.

The directive came during a review meeting held at the Krishi Nideshalaya (Agriculture Directorate) in Lucknow. The meeting, co-chaired by Agriculture Minister Shahi and Minister of State for Agriculture Baldev Singh Olakh, focused on a comprehensive review of the physical and financial progress of various schemes and programs run by the agriculture department. Key officials, including Principal Secretary of Agriculture Ravindra, Secretary of Agriculture Indra Vikram Singh, and Director of Agriculture Pankaj Tripathi, were also in attendance.

Key Directives and Actions

Minister Shahi emphasized that the timely and transparent distribution of high-quality seeds is a top priority for the government. He stated that any negligence in this regard would be taken seriously, with strict action against those found responsible.

To boost productivity, especially for pulses (chickpea, pea, lentil) and oilseeds (rapeseed, mustard, linseed), the minister instructed Deputy District Agriculture Directors and District Agriculture Officers to play a more active role in their respective areas.

The minister also addressed the issue of crop insurance for farmers in flood-affected and loss-stricken areas. He called for a joint team, comprising officials from the Revenue, Agriculture, and Insurance departments, to work effectively to ensure that affected farmers receive the benefits of crop insurance without delay.

The comprehensive plan aims to support farmers with essential resources and financial aid, paving the way for a productive agricultural season.
