LUCKNOW – Urban Development and Energy Minister, A.K. Sharma, took stock of the flood situation in his charge district, Jaunpur, on August 6, 2025. Presiding over a review meeting with officials, the minister emphasized the importance of proactive preparations to tackle potential flooding and prevent waterlogging in urban areas.
Proactive Measures and Preparedness
During the meeting held at the Collectorate auditorium, Minister Sharma inquired about the district’s readiness for floods and heavy rainfall. The District Magistrate informed him that all officials were on high alert, and while some waterlogging was present, there was no flood-like situation. The administration has already made arrangements for divers, relief kits, and other necessary resources to deal with affected areas. Coordination with the irrigation department is also underway.
The minister was also told that some homes had been affected by heavy rain, and the process of providing compensation to the victims was ongoing. Sharma also reviewed the fertilizer supply, confirming that there was no shortage in the district.

Directives to Officials
Minister Sharma issued several key directives to various departments:

- Animal Husbandry: The Chief Veterinary Officer was instructed to ensure timely vaccination of animals, especially in flood-prone areas, to prevent the spread of diseases.
- PWD/Urban Development: Officials were told to ensure a swift drainage system to prevent waterlogging on roads and to carry out immediate repairs to avoid accidents. All Executive Officers were directed to cover open drains and fill potholes.
- Electricity Department: The minister ordered a review of electrical wires and poles, the replacement of old wires, and the immediate replacement of burnt transformers. He also called for identifying and taking action against negligent employees.
- Health Department: The Chief Medical Officer was instructed to conduct insecticide spraying and random medical checks in areas prone to the spread of diseases as part of the communicable disease control campaign.
Promoting Local Products and National Campaigns
Highlighting the importance of ‘Vocal for Local,’ Minister Sharma urged officials to raise awareness about local products. He encouraged the public to buy locally made goods during upcoming festivals to boost the national economy.

He also extended his greetings for the upcoming festivals and Independence Day, urging residents to proudly display the national flag at their homes from August 13 to 15 as part of the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign.
The District Magistrate, Dr. Dinesh Chandra, assured the minister that his directives would be followed with 100% compliance. The meeting was attended by other key officials, including District President Pushpraj, Nagar Palika Parishad Chairperson Manorama Maurya, and Superintendent of Police Dr. Kaustubh.
