KGMU: 340-bed, 7-storey facility to offer specialized treatment in orthoplasty, spine surgery, sports medicine, and pediatric orthopedics under one roof
Lucknow – Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday gifted Uttar Pradesh its first high-tech Orthopedic Super Specialty Center, a landmark healthcare facility at King George’s Medical University (KGMU), Lucknow. The state-of-the-art, seven-storey building, constructed at a cost of ₹86 crore, aims to provide world-class orthopedic care to patients of all age groups—from children to the elderly—under a single roof.
“This is a major milestone in UP’s healthcare journey,” CM Yogi said at the inauguration ceremony. “The center is equipped to handle a range of conditions with specialized units for orthoplasty, spine surgery, sports medicine, pediatric orthopedics, radiology, and pathology.”
One Roof, Complete Orthopedic Care
The newly inaugurated facility boasts 340 beds, including:
-
220 beds for orthopedic surgery
-
60 beds for sports medicine
-
60 beds for pediatric orthopedics
The center features 8 advanced modular operation theatres, 2 minor OT rooms, 8 dedicated OPD rooms, and 24 high-dependency unit (HDU) beds. It also includes 24 private rooms, offering comprehensive diagnosis, surgery, and recovery services all within the same complex.
Special attention has been given to sports injury care, with expert sports medicine professionals assigned specifically to treat athletes. For children, pediatric orthopedic specialists will address congenital and acquired bone disorders.

Round-the-Clock Pharmacy and Modern Infrastructure
Vice Chancellor Prof. Sonia Nityanand stated that the center will be a blessing for patients across Uttar Pradesh, who will no longer need to visit multiple departments for treatment. The entire patient journey—from consultation and diagnostics to surgery and discharge—will be conducted under one roof.
The facility will also house 24×7 pharmacy counters, managed by HRF, offering continuous access to medicines and surgical equipment.
“This seven-storey orthopedic center is not just for Lucknow—it is a regional hub for bone and joint care across the state,” said Prof. Nityanand.
Training Center for Medical and Paramedical Staff
In addition to patient care, the center will also serve as a training institute for doctors and paramedical staff, equipping them with knowledge of the latest techniques and equipment in orthopedic surgery and rehabilitation.
A dedicated training block has been established to facilitate medical education, reflecting the Yogi government’s commitment to not only upgrading health infrastructure but also ensuring quality human resources.
A Healthcare Milestone for Uttar Pradesh
With this initiative, KGMU continues to strengthen its reputation as a center of excellence in medical education and treatment. CM Yogi noted that such world-class facilities were once considered out of reach for patients in UP, but are now becoming the new normal under a government committed to health sector transformation.
“This center is a testament to our vision of accessible, affordable, and world-class healthcare for every citizen of the state,” said the Chief Minister.
