UPMRC MD Flags off Shakti Metro, Week-Long ‘Exhibition on Wheels’ Celebrating Women Achievers Begins

In celebration of women’s achievements and contributions to society, the MD, UPMRC Shri Sushil Kumar today inaugurated the special Shakti Metro, marking the beginning of a week-long ‘Exhibition on Wheels’ across the North-South corridor of Lucknow Metro.

The programme began at CCS Airport Metro Station where MD Shri Sushil Kumar formally inaugurated the Shakti Metro. The Managing Director, along with UPMRC officials, boarded the specially designed metro train and took a tour of the ‘Exhibition on Wheels’ that showcases the inspiring journeys and achievements of prominent women from India across different fields. The exhibition will run for a week and will be available for passengers travelling on the metro to view during their commute.

• During the visit, Shri Sushil Kumar also unveiled the Wall of Gratitude, a special wall installed at the Hazratganj metro Station station where people can write messages for the women who have influenced their lives. Many commuters participated by writing messages expressing appreciation for their mothers, spouse, sisters, teachers, colleagues, friends etc.

* A special Musical Chair competition was organised for female Housekeeping and Security Staff at CCS Airport Metro Station. The winners were awarded by MD Shri Sushil Kumar at Hazratganj Metro Station.

• A musical event was also organised at Hazratganj metro Station under the Show Your Talent initiative. It was an Open-for-all musical programme which invited women passengers to sing their favourite songs on karaoke support. The activity created a lively atmosphere at the station and encouraged women commuters to participate and showcase their talent.

Speaking on the occasion, the Managing Director, UPMRC Shri Sushil Kumar said- “ I take immense pride in telling you all that every 1 in 3 trains are operated by our women Train Operators. Similarly, 1 in four staff is a female in core technical departments such as maintainance, signalling, Electrical systems etc.
Moreover about 20% executives in Lucknow are female officers.”
He added that through activities such as the Exhibition on Wheels and passenger engagement programmes, UPMRC aims to create meaningful and inclusive experiences for commuters using the Lucknow Metro.

Women Safety in Lucknow Metro

In trains:
* Every cab (coach) has two Passenger Emergency Intercom (PEI) for communicating
with the Train Operator directly in case of any emergency or threat. Upon pressing
the PEI button, the passenger engages in a telephonic conversation with the train
operator on a loudspeaker so that fellow passengers also know someone is at the
other end of the call. The CCTV footage of the PEI -in-use coach is automatically
transmitted in Cab, OCC,DCC and Security Control room.
* As soon as the train stops on the next station, a security team will be present to
assist the passenger and only after assistance is provided, will the train move ahead.
* 16 CCTV camera per train to monitor the activities inside the train at all times and
the feed is Displayed in Driver Cab, Centralised OCC & Security Control room.

At stations:
* 50 to 60 CCTV cameras per station for continuous monitoring at-
* Station Control Rooms
* Centralised Security Control Room manned by UP police at Depot Control Centre

•             Security checks
•             Presence of lady security personal at all stations
•             Presence of lady housekeeping staff inside women washrooms
* Glass panelled see-through cubicles for station controllers, Ticket counters to ensure
monitoring of stations at all times
•             Glass panelled see-through lifts with talkback facility in case of any emergency
•             Properly Illuminated area, no dark spots at stations
