UP to have an International Airport in Every Division, Set to Emerge as Aviation Power Centre

Lucknow– Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has outlined an ambitious roadmap to transform the state into an aviation hub, with the vision of establishing one international airport in every division and connecting all districts with air routes by 2047.

Under the “One Division, One International Airport” plan, the government aims to create seamless air connectivity across the state, complementing expressways and highways. The initiative is expected to not only enhance passenger convenience but also accelerate investment, industry, and logistics, positioning UP as a global aviation power centre.

Currently, four international airports are operational in the state, while the fifth—Jewar International Airport—is being developed as a crown jewel. Once completed, Jewar will rank among Asia’s largest airports, serving as both a cargo and transit hub. It will also house a Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) centre, boosting UP’s presence on the global aviation map.

Before 2017, air connectivity in UP was extremely limited, with only a handful of airports operating and vast regions cut off from aviation networks. Over the past eight-and-a-half years, however, the Yogi government has transformed the landscape: 16 domestic airports are functional, while five more are under construction.

The long-term vision includes developing green smart highways, regional airstrips, helipads, and air cargo hubs. By integrating aviation with industrial and tourism growth, UP is targeting a future where it becomes a logistical powerhouse and a central node of global air transport by 2047.
