UP to Build 1000-Metric-Ton Warehouses in 16 Districts, Farmers to Benefit from Better Storage and Pricing

Lucknow — In a landmark initiative to support farmers and streamline agricultural marketing, the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government is set to construct high-capacity warehouses in 16 districts under the world’s largest grain storage scheme. These 24 multi-purpose Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) will each host storage facilities with capacities ranging from 500 to 1000 metric tons.

The move aims to give farmers much-needed relief from post-harvest pressures, allowing them to store their produce safely and sell it at the right time for fair prices, rather than rushing to sell at undervalued rates.

Districts Benefitting from the Initiative:

The warehouses will be developed in Lucknow, Barabanki, Sultanpur, Amethi, Bahraich, Rae Bareli, Etah, Mathura, Farrukhabad, Lakhimpur Kheri, Kanpur Nagar, Maharajganj, Kushinagar, Jalaun, Pilibhit, and Jhansi.

This initiative is a part of the global mega grain storage program aimed at boosting storage infrastructure in rural India. It will also aid in efficient management and distribution of both agricultural produce and essential commodities at the local level.

Key Benefits:

  • Enhanced storage capacity reduces crop spoilage and enables farmers to avoid distress sales.

  • Transparent and efficient sales process, eliminating middlemen.

  • Empowerment of PACS, positioning them as vital rural institutions for storage, trade, and community development.

  • Boost to local agri-industry, ensuring better price realization and overall rural prosperity.

With this project, the Uttar Pradesh government reinforces its commitment to doubling farmers’ income and promoting sustainable agricultural practices.
