Agra, – The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) has apprehended three members of a gang involved in defrauding youths under the pretext of securing recruitment into the Territorial Army. The gang allegedly issued fake appointment letters and medical clearance passes, swindling victims out of sums ranging from ₹1 to ₹4 lakh.
The arrests were made on June 8, 2025, in the TP Nagar police station area of Agra. Acting on a tip-off, the STF team swiftly moved in and caught the three accused red-handed near the ISBT (Inter-State Bus Terminal). The STF had been pursuing this gang for a considerable period.
Arrested individuals have been identified as:
- Ajay Kumar, resident of Saigai, Police Station Matsena, Firozabad
- Kulwant Singh, resident of Raghunathpura, Haripur Patil, District Samba, Jammu and Kashmir
- Sunil Kumar, resident of Rakhkangwal, District Samba, Jammu and Kashmir
Items recovered from the accused include:
- Fake documents such as appointment letters and medical gate passes
- Two Aadhaar cards, one driving license
- One Voter ID card, one Ayushman card, and three ATM cards
- Three mobile phones
- ₹1,630 in cash
Modus Operandi of the Scam: During interrogation, the arrested individuals revealed that they would obtain fake recruitment notifications through two accomplices, Ranjeet Yadav and Deepak Kumar Sharma. They would then target youths from Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab, luring them with promises of recruitment to General Duty (GD) posts in the Territorial Army. Victims were instructed to transfer between ₹1 lakh and ₹4 lakh to Deepak Sharma’s account, with the gang members receiving ₹30,000 to ₹50,000 as their share.
Authorities believe that this gang has defrauded dozens of young individuals out of lakhs of rupees. Further investigations are underway to apprehend other members of the gang.
A First Information Report (FIR No. 0196/2025) has been registered against the arrested individuals at Hariparvat Police Station, Commissionerate Agra, under sections 318(4), 338, 336(3), 340(2), and 61(2) of the BNS (Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita). Local police are conducting further legal proceedings.
