Lucknow: In a major step toward strengthening Uttar Pradesh’s forensic capabilities, the State Forensic Science Laboratory signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Centurion University, Odisha. The agreement, signed in the presence of Director General of Police (DGP) Rajeev Krishna at Police Headquarters, aims to provide Uttar Pradesh with a “new scientific strength” in line with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s vision of modernizing governance through technology and institutional cooperation.
The MoU is expected to accelerate several forensic initiatives launched recently in the state. Notably, under the new criminal laws, it has become mandatory for forensic experts to visit crime scenes in serious cases, ensuring the scientific and precise collection of evidence.
“This partnership reflects a shared commitment to knowledge exchange, innovation, and capacity-building in forensic sciences,” said DGP Rajeev Krishna, praising the initiative. He added that it would not only enhance academic research but also transform the state’s forensic framework, helping Uttar Pradesh emerge as a national leader in scientific investigation and forensic excellence.

Boost for research and training
Additional DGP (Technical Services) Naveen Arora highlighted the wide-ranging benefits of the collaboration. It will facilitate joint teaching, training, and research programs; exchange of publications and library resources; access to advanced scientific equipment and lab facilities; and co-guidance opportunities for researchers and scholars. Students will gain a competitive edge in the rapidly evolving field of forensic science, improving their employability while supporting law enforcement and judicial systems across India.
This development follows the recent launch of 75 state-of-the-art mobile forensic vans by CM Yogi Adityanath. These vans, equipped for DNA sampling, fingerprint analysis, toxicology testing, and other advanced procedures, have already given forensic policing in Uttar Pradesh a significant boost.

National recognition for Centurion University
Centurion University’s School of Vocational Education and Training was recently declared a Centre of Excellence by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, making it the only university in India to hold this recognition.
Centurion University President Prof. Mukti Kanta Mishra said, “By combining our academic resources with the forensic expertise of UP’s State Forensic Science Laboratory, we will empower students and researchers to contribute meaningfully to advancements in forensic science and technology.”
The MoU signing ceremony was attended by senior police officials, including DIG Technical Services and officials of the Forensic Science Laboratory, along with Centurion University leaders Vice Chancellor Dr. Supriya Patnaik, Director Monalisha Ghosh, and Associate Dean Dr. Reena C. Jhamtani.
