UP Shines at National Junior Wushu Championship with 10 Medals

Lucknow : Uttar Pradesh’s junior Wushu team put up a stellar performance at the 24th National Junior Wushu Championship, held in Hyderabad from July 1 to 6. The team clinched a total of 10 medals — including 1 gold, 2 silver, and 7 bronze — showcasing their rising dominance in the sport.

Leading the medal tally for UP was Buddham Lama from Gautam Buddh Nagar, who emerged as the star performer. Lama bagged the gold medal in the Taolu Nandao event, a silver in the Nanquan, and a bronze in Nangun, underlining his all-round excellence and agility across disciplines.

The performance drew appreciation from the Uttar Pradesh Wushu Association, with General Secretary Manish Kakkar congratulating the winners. He noted that the team underwent intensive training at a preparatory camp held in Lucknow under the guidance of coaches Amit Rosa and Neha Kashyap.

In the Sanda category, Aniruddh Chauhan from Agra won silver in the 90 kg weight division. Several other players contributed to UP’s medal haul with commendable efforts:

  • Aryaman Sharma (Gautam Buddh Nagar) won bronze in the Single Weapon Taolu event.
  • Sunish Rawat (Lucknow) earned bronze in Gunshu.
  • Shagun Rawat (Lucknow) secured bronze in Qiangshu.
  • Manya (Lucknow) brought home bronze in the Wing Chun category.
  • Priyanshu Chaudhary (Gautam Buddh Nagar) and Prashant (Meerut) clinched bronze medals in the 75 kg and 80 kg Sanda categories respectively.

The achievement is being hailed as a strong step forward for Wushu in the state, highlighting the growing talent pool and the importance of continued grassroots training initiatives.
