UP Police Break 8-Year Record, Neutralise 48 Notorious Criminals in 2025

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Police set a new benchmark in 2025 by neutralising 48 notorious criminals in encounters, breaking an eight-year record. The data was shared by Director General of Police (DGP) Rajeev Krishna during a press briefing at the police headquarters.

The DGP stated that between March 20, 2017, and December 29, 2025, a total of 266 criminals were killed in police encounters across the state. In 2025 alone, UP Police conducted 2,739 operations, during which 3,153 accused were injured, while one police personnel was martyred in the line of duty.

Sharing year-wise figures, the DGP said 41 criminals were killed in encounters in 2018, 34 in 2019, and 26 each in 2020 and 2021. The intensified action in 2025 was carried out under the directions of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath as part of the state’s zero-tolerance policy against crime.

Apart from encounter operations, the police also stepped up action against illegal religious conversion. A total of 475 cases were registered in this category, leading to the arrest of 855 accused, with charge-sheets filed in 379 cases.

In cases related to cow smuggling and cow slaughter, 1,197 cases were registered across the state, resulting in the arrest of 3,128 accused. Charge-sheets were filed in 958 cases. Additionally, action under the Gangster Act and Goonda Act was taken against 1,886 accused, and properties worth ₹7.38 crore were seized.

During 2025, UP Police seized 8,543 two-wheelers, 911 four-wheelers, ₹28.69 crore in cash, jewellery worth ₹52.27 crore, and other properties valued at ₹58.17 crore in cases of theft, robbery, and burglary. A total of 54,995 mobile phones were recovered, out of which 49,404 were returned to their rightful owners.

The DGP further informed that between January 1 and December 20, 2025, the police disposed of 1.16 lakh vehicles, ₹50.97 crore in cash, jewellery worth ₹76.42 crore, electronic items worth ₹3.36 crore, and other properties worth ₹39.53 crore, including narcotics, following due legal procedures.

UP Police officials said the sustained crackdown reflects the government’s resolve to maintain law and order and ensure public safety across the state.
