UP Govt Announces 20% Reservation for Agniveers in Police Recruitment, Major Relief for Ex-Servicemen

Lucknow– In a landmark decision aimed at honouring military service and ensuring career stability for youth, the Uttar Pradesh government has announced a 20% reservation for Agniveers in state police recruitment after the completion of their military service under the Agnipath scheme.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath made the announcement during the Kargil Vijay Diwas celebrations held in Lucknow, stating that the contribution of Agniveers to the nation’s security will be rewarded with preferential recruitment in the state’s police force.

“Agniveers who have dedicated their youth to safeguarding the country will be given 20% reservation in Uttar Pradesh Police recruitment upon completing their service. This initiative is being rolled out to offer them a secure future,” said CM Yogi.

Support for Martyrs’ Families

In a compassionate move, the Chief Minister also announced that families of Agniveers who are martyred in the line of duty will receive ₹50 lakh financial assistance and a government job for one family member. Additionally, memorials, institutions, or roads will be named after the martyrs in their hometowns to immortalize their sacrifices.

Honouring the Brave

During the event, families of war heroes including Captain Manoj Pandey, Lance Naik Kevalanand Dwivedi, Rifleman Sunil Jang, and Major Ritesh Sharma were felicitated for their service and supreme sacrifice.

Inspiring a New Generation

The decision is being widely seen as a significant step towards making military service more attractive to the youth by ensuring a stable career path post-service. It reflects the UP government’s intent to not only enhance the state’s security framework but also boost patriotic engagement among the younger population.

This move is expected to bolster the Agnipath scheme’s credibility, providing Agniveers with not just a platform to serve the nation, but also a reliable future in civilian services, creating a model for other states to follow.
