UP Government Approves ₹14.09 Crore Vedic-Themed Development of Naimisharanya Dham

Lucknow: In a major push to religious tourism, the Uttar Pradesh government has sanctioned ₹14.09 crore for the comprehensive development of Naimisharanya Dham under a Vedic-themed project titled ‘Vedaranyam’. The initiative, driven under the vision of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, aims to transform the historic pilgrimage site into a world-class spiritual and tourism destination. An initial installment of ₹7.04 crore has already been released.

Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh stated that the project will uniquely integrate modern infrastructure with India’s ancient Vedic heritage, offering visitors a spiritually enriching experience. Naimisharanya, one of North India’s major pilgrimiage, attracts devotees from across the country and holds immense mythological and cultural significance.

Under the ‘Vedaranyam’ concept, the site will feature dedicated sections based on the four Vedas—Rigveda, Yajurveda, Samaveda and Atharvaveda. In addition, thematic zones such as Panchvriksha, Ayurveda, Nakshatra and ‘Sansar’ will be developed to showcase traditional knowledge systems and ecological balance. An audio-guided tree trail will also be introduced, enabling visitors to learn about the religious and medicinal importance of various plants.

The project also focuses on strengthening basic infrastructure, including construction of toilets, ticket counters, security rooms, cafeterias, pagodas, and a Pravesh Dwar. Beautification works such as stone pitching, lotus ponds, Tulsi Vrindavan, sculptures, pergolas, and carved stone structures are also planned. Facilities like solar street lighting, overhead water tanks, water ATMs, dustbins, and signage systems will further enhance visitor convenience.

Senior officials, including Additional Chief Secretary Tourism Amrit Abhijat, emphasized that the project will be executed with high quality and within a fixed timeline, ensuring preservation of the site’s spiritual identity while boosting tourism and local employment opportunities.
