Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has initiated the acquisition of over 160 hectares of land across 21 villages to expand the Aligarh-Palwal Highway. The government has earmarked Rs 600 crore for the land purchase, with compensation packages already announced for 17 villages. Compensation for four additional villages, amounting to approximately Rs 50 crore, is expected soon.
To streamline the compensation process, local authorities are setting up camps in key villages such as Arrana, Udaygarhi, Bankner, Ganeshpur, and others. The expansion is part of a larger effort to develop the highway into a four-lane road, with the Public Works Department (PWD) having already invested Rs 552 crore into the project. However, the Khair-Jattari bypass remains incomplete, leading to traffic disruptions, as it was transferred to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
In response to growing public demand, the central government has allocated Rs 2,500 crore for the highway’s development, with around Rs 1,500 crore dedicated to land acquisition. Once completed, the expanded highway will significantly improve connectivity between Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, especially enhancing access to Delhi-NCR. The project will link the Eastern Peripheral Expressway at Palwal with the Yamuna Expressway junction in Tappal, facilitating smoother travel to cities like Aligarh, Agra, Mathura, Greater Noida, Palwal, and Gurugram.
