Lucknow: In a significant move to curb misuse of the legal system, Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police Rajeev Krishna has directed all police officials across the state to take strict action against individuals filing false FIRs.
According to the order if allegations mentioned in an FIR are found to be incorrect during investigation, police must register a case against the complainant and initiate stringent legal action. The DGP emphasised that any negligence in implementing these instructions will not be tolerated.
The directive follows observations by the Allahabad High Court, which on January 14 instructed authorities to identify cases where false information was provided and to take legal action against those responsible. The court had also recommended that statements of complainants be recorded through audio and video before filing charge sheets to ensure transparency and accountability.
Officials noted that courts have often observed instances where complaints are exaggerated, but investigations reveal a different reality. The new order aims to discourage such practices and ensure fairness in the justice system.

Meanwhile, DGP Rajeev Krishna reiterated that the state police will continue its crackdown on organised crime, particularly cattle smuggling. He stated that several gangs involved in such activities have been dismantled, with their networks significantly weakened.
Reaffirming the government’s zero-tolerance policy towards crime, he said strict action will continue against offenders. He added that curbing cattle smuggling remains a priority under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s directives, with police instructed to break the supply chains and take decisive action against all those involved.
The new measures are expected to strengthen accountability, prevent misuse of legal provisions, and reinforce public trust in the law enforcement system.
