Lucknow Welcomes Prestigious Trophy Ahead of Historic Tournament in Tamil Nadu; CM Highlights UP’s Legacy in Indian Hockey
Addressing the gathering, CM Adityanath said, “Welcoming the prestigious trophy in Lucknow is a joyous moment for the state and its people. Uttar Pradesh has a rich legacy in hockey, and this moment reflects the state’s historic contribution to the sport in India.”
Highlighting current players from Uttar Pradesh, he said, “Talents like Rajkumar Pal, Uttam Singh, Vishnukant Singh, Mumtaz, Sakshi, Jyoti, and Purnima continue to make the state and the country proud, representing India in senior and junior national teams.”
Twenty-four teams, including India, Belgium, China, Japan, Spain, New Zealand, Chile, Canada, and Australia, will compete in the Junior Men’s Hockey World Cup 2025. India, the host nation, has previously won the title in 2001 and 2016 and will aim to claim its third title on home soil.

CM Adityanath welcomed all officials associated with the tournament and wished the Indian team success. Present at the event were State Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Girish Chandra Yadav, Sports Secretary Suhas LYV, Hockey India officials including General Secretary Bholanath Singh, DG Commander RK Srivastava, UP Hockey General Secretary Rajneesh Kumar Mishra, and international hockey player Lalit Kumar Upadhyay.
