Geneva: United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has warned the people of the world about the rising temperature of the sea. Antonio Guterres is currently participating in a Pacific Islands Forum in Tonga, located in the Pacific Ocean region.
Guterres said that the sea temperature in the Pacific Islands is rising three times faster than around the world. He also said that the population here is being particularly affected by the impact of rising sea levels.
The increase is more than double the global average in the last 30 years
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also highlighted an important report while talking to journalists, which said that the Southwest Pacific region has been most affected by sea level rise. In some places, this increase is more than double the global average in the last 30 years.
Guterres told journalists that I am in Tonga to issue a global SOAS (Save Our Seas) on rising sea levels. He further said, ‘Rising sea levels are increasing the frequency and severity of storms and coastal floods. These floods swallow those living near coastal areas. Destroy fisheries and also damage crops. Not only this, but also contaminate fresh water. All these incidents put the Pacific island countries in serious danger.’
