Udaipur Mourns the Demise of Mewar Royal Arvind Singh Mewar

Udaipur – A wave of sorrow swept across Rajasthan’s Mewar region early Sunday morning as tragic news emerged from the royal household. Arvind Singh Mewar, a direct descendant of Maharana Pratap and the head of the Mewar royal family, passed away after a prolonged illness. The 80-year-old royal breathed his last at dawn on Sunday at Shambhu Niwas, the City Palace residence where he had been under medical care.

Arvind Singh Mewar was the 76th custodian of the illustrious Mewar dynasty and the second son of Bhagwat Singh Mewar. He was also the younger brother of the late Maharana Mahendra Singh Mewar, who passed away a few months ago. His death has plunged the entire Mewar royal family and local residents into deep mourning.

His son, Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar, took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to announce the demise. In a heartfelt post, he wrote, “It is with profound grief that I inform you of the passing of my father, Arvind Singh Mewar, on Sunday. Final respects can be paid from 7:00 AM on Monday, followed by the last rites at 11:00 AM.”

Funeral Procession Details

The funeral procession is scheduled to begin at 11:00 AM on Monday. It will start from Shambhu Niwas and proceed through Bari Pol, Jagdish Chowk, Ghanta Ghar, Bada Bazaar, and Delhi Gate, concluding at Mahasatya, where the cremation will take place.

A Life Steeped in Heritage

Born on December 13, 1944, in Udaipur’s City Palace, Arvind Singh Mewar dedicated his life to preserving the rich cultural legacy of the Mewar dynasty. Apart from his custodianship of the royal lineage, he was known for his efforts in promoting tourism and heritage conservation in Rajasthan, particularly through the management of royal properties and cultural events in Udaipur.

As news of his death spread, tributes began pouring in from across the region, with many recalling his contributions to the preservation of Mewar’s glorious history. The state is expected to observe mourning in memory of the revered royal.

His passing marks the end of an era, and his legacy as a guardian of Mewar’s heritage will be remembered for generations to come.
