Two Robbers Arrested After Gunfight in Lucknow, Firearms and Stolen Items Recovered

Lucknow: Two notorious robbers were arrested in the early hours of Monday following a dramatic encounter with the police in Uttar Pradesh’s capital, Lucknow. The shootout took place around 3 AM near the Sahara Bridge under the jurisdiction of the East Lucknow Police. Both suspects sustained gunshot wounds to the leg during the exchange of fire and were subsequently apprehended.

According to DCP East Lucknow, Shashank Singh, the police team was on routine patrol when they spotted two individuals on a motorcycle near the bridge. Upon being signaled to stop, the suspects opened fire at the officers. The police retaliated in self-defense, injuring one of the robbers, while the other attempted to flee the scene.

The police chased the second suspect, who also fired at the pursuing officers. In the retaliatory firing, the second suspect too was shot in the leg and arrested.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Monu Rajput and Mahesh Rawat. During interrogation, both confessed to their involvement in recent snatching incidents in Vipul Khand and Vivek Khand areas of the city.

The police recovered country-made pistols (tamanchas), live cartridges, and the snatched purses from both suspects. Officials confirmed that multiple criminal cases have already been registered against the duo, who had been recently released from prison.

The investigation is ongoing, and police are exploring the possibility of the accused being involved in a broader network of street crimes across the city.
