Two Members of Overseas Job Fraud Gang Arrested in Gonda; 194 Passports and ₹6.22 Lakh Recovered

Gonda: Police from Kotwali Nagar Police Station arrested two wanted members of a gang accused of cheating people on the pretext of sending them abroad for jobs. During the operation, police recovered 194 passports, ₹6.22 lakh in cash and a Scorpio vehicle from the accused.

The action was taken as part of a special drive against crime launched under the direction of Vineet Jaiswal. The operation was supervised by Manoj Kumar Rawat and carried out under the leadership of Circle Officer Anand Kumar Rai.

According to police, the arrested accused have been identified as Amjad Karim, a resident of Shravan Nagar in Gorakhpur, and Sunil Gupta, a resident of Nanda Nagar, Darghahiya Harijan Basti in Gorakhpur. They were wanted in connection with cases registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Kotwali Nagar police station.

Police said the gang operated an office under the name “Multi International Immigration Council/Counselling” and allegedly lured people with promises of jobs in Moscow. Victims were asked to pay large sums for visa processing and were issued fake visa agreements and offer letters. They were even called to airports in Delhi and Lucknow, after which the accused collected their passports and stopped responding, leaving the victims cheated.

Acting on written complaints from multiple victims, police registered cases and launched an investigation. Earlier, the main accused Vivek Kumar alias Shamshad Khan had already been arrested from Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport and sent to jail. During police custody, information provided by him led to the arrest of the two associates.

From the arrested accused, police recovered 194 passports, ₹6,22,000 in cash, one Scorpio vehicle (UP53FL4414), a Realme mobile phone with two SIM cards and an iPhone 14 with a SIM card.

A police team comprising Sub-Inspector Manish Kumar, Head Constable Ravi Prakash Yadav and Constable Rajesh Kumar carried out the arrests. Further legal proceedings are currently underway, police said.
