&TV Actresses Share Their Special Dhanteras Traditions to Welcome Luck, Health and Prosperity

Mumbai: Dhanteras marks the beginning of the Diwali festivities and is celebrated as a day of prosperity, devotion and new beginnings. It is believed that purchases made and prayers offered on this day bring good fortune and positive energy into one’s life. As the auspicious day approaches, people across the country are preparing to celebrate with joy. On this occasion, &TV actresses spoke about the simple yet meaningful rituals and traditions they follow on Dhanteras to invite luck and abundance into their homes. The artistes include Priyamvada Kant (Latika in the upcoming show ‘Gharwali Pedwali’), Himani Shivpuri (Katori Amma in ‘Happu Ki Ultan Paltan’), and Vidisha Srivastava (Anita Bhabhi in ‘Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain’).

Priyamvada Kant, soon to be seen as Latika in &TV’s new show ‘Gharwali Pedwali’, said, “Dhanteras fills me with gratitude and positivity. I like to keep the day simple yet meaningful. Every year, I start the morning by lighting a lamp and praying to Goddess Lakshmi for health and happiness. I also make sure to buy a metal item, usually silver coins or utensils, as it is believed to attract good fortune. My mother and I decorate the entrance of our home with rangoli and diyas to welcome prosperity. This small ritual cleanses both the house and the heart, setting a positive tone for Diwali.”

Veteran actress Himani Shivpuri, who plays Katori Amma in ‘Happu Ki Ultan Paltan’, shared, “Dhanteras holds great emotional and cultural value for me. In our family, we have a tradition of lighting 13 diyas in the evening, dedicated to Lord Dhanvantari and Goddess Lakshmi. I have followed this ritual since childhood. I also ensure that we buy a small silver item every year—whether a coin or an idol—as it represents peace and prosperity. These traditions remind me of my parents and their simple faith, which I wish to carry forward. For me, Dhanteras is not just about material wealth, but also about spiritual richness and good health.”

Vidisha Srivastava, who plays Anita Bhabhi in ‘Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain’, said, “In our home, Dhanteras is celebrated with great enthusiasm and devotion. We begin the day by cleaning and decorating the house to make every corner bright and welcoming. In the evening, we perform Lakshmi puja and light diyas in every room. One ritual I never skip is buying a broom and a gold or silver coin. It is believed to remove negativity and bring prosperity. This year, my husband, daughter and I will also prepare sweets at home before the puja, as sharing sweets symbolises spreading joy and positivity.”
