Lucknow – Police in Lucknow have achieved a significant breakthrough by apprehending three notorious chain snatchers active in the city. A joint operation by the Gomtinagar Police Station and the East Zone’s Crime and Surveillance teams led to the arrests. Authorities have recovered three pieces of a gold chain, ₹6,000 in cash, and the motorcycle used in the crimes.
The arrests occurred during a vehicle check at Gwari Chauraha when police attempted to stop a suspicious motorcycle. The riders attempted to flee, but the police team immediately gave chase and successfully apprehended all three.
The arrested individuals have been identified as:
- Deepak Soni, 19, resident of Vidhayak Chauraha, Chinhat Police Station
- Lucky Kashyap, 19, resident of Kaharan Tola, Satrik Road, Chinhat Police Station
- Sumit Kashyap, 18, resident of Kaharan Tola, Satrik Road, Chinhat Police Station
Investigation Reveals Multiple Chain Snatching Incidents: During interrogation, the accused confessed to snatching a chain from a woman outside Sahara Plaza in Patrakar Puram, Gomtinagar, on June 6, 2025. They also admitted to robbing another woman of her chain near CMS School in the Vikas Nagar area on the night of May 30. The stolen chain was reportedly cut into three pieces and divided among them. While some of the cash was spent, police managed to recover ₹6,000.
The black Splendor motorcycle (No. UP32PW2426) used in the robberies has also been seized. Investigations have revealed that Lucky Kashyap has a prior case registered against him under the Arms Act, while Sumit Kashyap faces charges of kidnapping and forced marriage (sections 363/366) in Fatehpur Police Station, Barabanki district.

- FIR No. 76/2025 under sections 304(2)/317(2) BNS at Vikas Nagar Police Station.

Police are currently investigating other potential crimes involving these accused and are also looking into whether they are part of a larger criminal gang.
