Tehran – Military tensions in the Persian Gulf have reached a dangerous high as Iran and the United States traded claims of attacks and counteractions. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that it launched a precise missile and drone strike targeting the U.S. aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, allegedly inflicting significant damage. The U.S., however, dismissed the claim, describing the threat as unsuccessful.
According to Iranian state media Press TV, the IRGC conducted the operation near Oman, striking the vessel roughly 340 km from Iranian territory. The IRGC further claimed that the Lincoln was rendered non-operational and forced to retreat at high speed. Iran also asserted that its drones struck the U.S. naval base at Mina Salman in Bahrain in two waves.
In response, U.S. officials rejected Tehran’s assertions. CBS News reported that a nearby Iranian ship approaching the aircraft carrier was intercepted in time. Warning shots from a Mark-45 gun were followed by two precision strikes from a helicopter armed with Hellfire missiles. The U.S. confirmed that all vessels remained safe and the threat was successfully neutralized.

The incident comes hours after Iran’s new revolutionary leader, Mujtaba Khamenei, warned enemies of “regretful consequences.” Meanwhile, reports of Iran-backed groups downing a U.S. KC-135 refueling aircraft in Iraq have intensified concerns. Both nations continue to assert military dominance, raising fears of a broader conflict in the Gulf region.
