The breakthrough intervention was performed on a 75-year-old woman suffering from severe Mitral Regurgitation (MR) and valvular heart disease, conditions that had led to repeated heart failure and debilitating breathlessness.
According to Dr. Gautam Swaroop, Director of the Cardiology Department, the patient was considered unfit for traditional open-heart surgery due to her age and fragile health. A comprehensive assessment by a multi-disciplinary team concluded that M-TEER was the safest and most effective option.

“This modern technique is completely safe and does not require general anesthesia. A catheter is inserted through a vein in the leg and guided to the heart to repair the valve. The entire procedure takes just 40–45 minutes, and in most cases, the patient can be discharged the next day.”
Following the intervention, the patient experienced significant relief in breathing and improvement in the heart’s functioning, marking a rapid recovery.
