Temporary Night Shelter Set Up at SGPGI to Protect Patients and Attendants from Severe Cold

Lucknow: In compliance with the Uttar Pradesh government’s appeal to ensure that no citizen is forced to sleep in the open during the ongoing severe cold wave, Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI) has arranged a temporary night shelter (rainbasera) for patients and their attendants at Gate No. 2 of the institute.

The facility was formally inaugurated today by SGPGI Director Professor R.K. Dhiman, who marked the occasion by distributing blankets to those taking shelter. On the first day itself, nearly 500 people availed of the facility.

The temporary shelter has been made fully secure against cold winds and has been equipped with carpeting on the floor, offering much-needed relief to patients and their family members enduring the harsh winter conditions. The initiative is expected to significantly ease the hardship faced by attendants who often spend long hours outdoors while caring for their loved ones.

Also present on the occasion were Chief Medical Superintendent Professor Devendra Gupta and Executive Finance Officer Mr. Prakash Singh. Institute officials said the arrangement reflects SGPGI’s commitment to public welfare and its alignment with the state government’s humanitarian measures during the winter season.
