Tata Group to Expand EV Manufacturing Footprint in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow: The Tata Group is set to significantly expand its electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing operations in Uttar Pradesh, marking a major boost for the state’s industrial and clean mobility ambitions. The development was discussed during a meeting between Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Tata Sons Chairman N. Chandrasekaran on Monday.

During the meeting, a detailed review was conducted of the Tata Group’s ongoing projects in Uttar Pradesh as well as its future investment plans. Chandrasekaran informed the Chief Minister that Tata Motors is expanding EV manufacturing in the state, with work already underway on the development of new electric vehicle models. He also shared updates on the group’s key initiatives related to energy infrastructure and industrial development.

Highlighting Tata Power’s contribution to the state’s energy sector, Chandrasekaran said the company is operating a 1,900 MW thermal power unit at the Bara plant in Prayagraj, which is playing a crucial role in strengthening Uttar Pradesh’s power supply. Alongside this, efforts are being accelerated to expand solar power projects across the state.

Presenting the Tata Group’s EV development roadmap, the Tata Sons Chairman said manufacturing of electric buses and other electric vehicles is being scaled up in Uttar Pradesh. The expansion is expected not only to strengthen Tata Group’s presence in the EV sector but also to generate new employment opportunities in the state.

The meeting also featured a comprehensive overview of Tata Power’s existing and proposed energy projects in Uttar Pradesh. Tata Power Solar is making a notable contribution to the renewable energy landscape, with two operational solar projects of 50 MW each in Prayagraj and Banda. In addition, solar rooftop projects are being implemented across all 75 districts of the state, promoting clean energy adoption.

These initiatives align closely with the Chief Minister’s vision of sustainable development, contributing significantly towards reducing carbon emissions and positioning Uttar Pradesh as a key hub for green energy and electric mobility in the country.
