Paramaribo: Former Suriname President Chandrikapersad Santokhi, known for his role in investigating the country’s infamous 1982 political killings, has passed away at the age of 67. Santokhi, popularly called “Chan,” served as President from 2020 to 2025 and earlier held the position of Minister of Justice and Police between 2005 and 2010. His death was confirmed by current President Jennifer Geerlings-Simons, who praised his decades of public service. The cause of death has not yet been disclosed.
