Sweet Vision, Green Future: CII Sugartech 2025 Charts India’s Bio-Energy Roadmap

Lucknow: The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Uttar Pradesh organised the 11th edition of CII Sugartech 2025 on 26 September in Lucknow, bringing together over 200 participants including industry leaders, policymakers, academicians, and researchers. The conference was chaired by  Narendra Mohan, Former Director, National Sugar Institute (NSI) and Managing Director, Greentech.

The event recognised companies and progressive farmers for their contributions to sugar production and sustainability.  Kumar Vineet, IAS, MD, UP Sugar Federation, highlighted the need for a farmer-centric ecosystem balancing productivity, profitability, and sustainability. He underlined opportunities in ethanol, green energy, and value-added products, praising CII for fostering dialogue and collaboration.

Conference Chairman  Narendra Mohan emphasised the transformation of the sugar industry into a diversified hub for bio-electricity, bio-ethanol, biogas, and green fuels. He stressed four priorities: climate-resilient varieties, stabilising demand-supply, advanced cost-reduction technologies, and value-added by-products.

Industry leaders echoed the call for innovation and sustainability.  Rakesh Kumar Gangwar, MD, Mawana Sugars Ltd., underscored balancing productivity and quality.  Shankar Lal Sharma, ED, Uttam Sugar Mills Ltd., highlighted the imperative of adopting new technologies.  Alok Saxena, ED, Gobind Sugar Mills Ltd., stressed ethanol diversification and automation, while Mr. Satish Maratha, MD, AB Mauri India, noted the sector’s role in India’s green energy transition.

The conference concluded with a strong vision for transitioning sugar mills into integrated bio-refineries, driving sustainability and positioning India as a global leader in the sugar and green energy sectors.
