Sugarcane Crushing Season 2025–26 Begins in Uttar Pradesh: 21 Mills Start Operations, Farmers Get ₹30 per Quintal Hike

CM Yogi’s government ensures timely payments; over 50 mills issue indent for cane purchase, boosting farmers’ income and sowing convenience

Lucknow: The sugarcane crushing season 2025–26 has officially begun in Uttar Pradesh, marking a promising start for millions of sugarcane farmers across the state. In a major relief to growers, the Yogi Adityanath government recently announced a historic ₹30 per quintal hike in sugarcane prices.

As of now, 21 sugar mills across the state have commenced crushing operations — including one cooperative and 20 private sector mills — while 53 mills have already issued indents for cane procurement. The remaining units are expected to start operations in the coming days.

According to Cane Commissioner Ministy S., the active sugar mills include five in Saharanpur region, eight in Meerut region, two in Moradabad region, and six in Lucknow region. The commissioner added that all formalities for the remaining 32 mills have been completed, and crushing work will begin shortly. The state’s remaining 69 mills will also start operations soon, ensuring smooth processing across Uttar Pradesh.

The government has issued strict directives for prompt payment of cane dues to farmers. Mills have already begun disbursing payments for the ongoing season. The timely start of crushing operations will also enable farmers to clear their fields early for wheat sowing, ensuring better crop rotation and agricultural productivity.

The Yogi government’s proactive measures — including higher cane prices, timely payments, and efficient monitoring — aim to empower farmers and strengthen the state’s agrarian economy. With over 70 lakh sugarcane farmers directly benefiting from the new rate and improved payment systems, Uttar Pradesh continues to lead the country in sugar production and farmer welfare.

Officials emphasized that the 2025–26 crushing season will not only enhance rural income but also contribute significantly to the state’s industrial output and employment generation. The move underlines the government’s commitment to ensuring that Uttar Pradesh’s sugar sector remains robust, farmer-centric, and globally competitive.
